SUMMARY:Native Sons Exhibition Opens at Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Native Sons\, an exhibition of the art of David Gore\, John Wm. Sisson\, and James Tracy will take place Nov. 22-Dec. 15 at the Brown County Art Gallery. There will be an opening reception on Nov. 22 from 3-5 p.m. \nThe three have deep roots in Brown County and have spent the majority of their lives there creating their highly original art. \nTracy was born in Brown County\, his pioneer ancestors arriving there in the early 1830s. He began formal art training at eight years of age\, won many regional and national art competitions while at Columbus North High School\, and attended The University of New Mexico and Indiana University. His work is widely collected and has won awards in many regional and national art Exhibitions. \nJohn Wm. Sisson has a life-long association with Brown County. He began visiting relatives there when he was a boy. Upon graduating from Purdue University with degrees in Fine Art and Anthropology he moved to the art colony in 1970. He is also an avid writer and collaborated with the artist Nancy Noel on the highly successful book\, “Believe”. \nDavid Gore’s family moved to Brown County when he was a boy. His interest in the arts was piqued by his exposure to the art of the early Brown County masters. He studied Fine Art at Indiana State University and Indiana University and has had a highly successful multi-faceted career as a visual artist\, musician\, singer and master carpenter. He describes his work as “a form of Abstract Expressionism using bits and pieces of ‘found objects'”. \nThe term “Assemblage” is sometimes used to describe this style and technique. \nPaintings are offered for sale with part of the proceeds to benefit the Brown County Foundation. \nGallery is open daily with free admission and free parking.
