Hello Gallery Supporters,

It’s March and signs of spring are everywhere! The Brown County Art Gallery is no exception. The snow scenes of our Permanent Collection have melted away and now the paintings by the early artists feature all the colors of spring.

Contemporary art is going on display March 13 by members of the Brown County Art Gallery Association giving you another good reason to make a trip to the Gallery. And the Rapp Room will have new for from Indiana Heritage Arts members.

April 1 – May 14 | Nancy Noel: “Spring Flowers and Summer Breezes” featuring new work for sale including original paintings.

Young artists from across central Indiana will be on display as well. Our annual Mable B. Annis Student Art Competition celebrates its 25th year with an opening reception on Saturday, April 8. Students from seven surrounding counties will compete for prize money and the opportunity to sell their work. This year they will have a chance to meet the judge and learn how they can turn their love of art into a professional career. Indianapolis artist Israel Solomon will also display his own work.

Israel is thriving as a painter, showing at major exhibitions at Newfields and one coming up at the Field Museum in Chicago. He also works as a muralist with his work prominent in Indianapolis. He is a member of the 18 ArtCollective which gives exhibition space and support to artists of color in Indianapolis. His studios are at the Harrison Art Center.

As a teacher, Israel taught middle school art in Avon and served as the “Artist in Residence” at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum. Israel is a passionate teacher and artist and his message to our young artists will surely inspire them that art can be a way of life… right here in central Indiana.
